On exhibit at the Archaeology Gallery of National Museum Eastern-Northern Mindanao is “Ginikanan" or "Gigikanan” which means “parent" or "origin” in English and "magulang" or "pinagmulan" in Filipino. The word Ginikanan refers to the Butwanon, the people and Butwan, the place while Gigikanan refers to the origin of the Butwanon and Butwan.
The gallery features the material culture of pre-Hispanic people of Butuan. The highlight collections of the exhibit are the following: artifacts of Balangay No. 5 (National Cultural Treasure), Clay Crucible (National Cultural Treasure), ritual figurines, secondary jar burials, specimens from Bequibell Shell Midden and Libertad Excavation Site, trade ceramics, earthenwares, glass beads, and ornaments.
