Peoples of Southwestern Philippines

›

Take pleasure in this exquisite mural of Noel Escultura as you enter the interactive exhibit of the National Museum Western-Southern Mindanao. This mural was previously part of the exhibition “Peoples of Southwestern Philippines,” showcasing the National Ethnographic Collections of the three ethnolinguistic groups, namely the Subanun, Yakan, and Sama Dilaut.

On the left is an image of a dancing couple to illustrate the Subanun’s “buklog” ritual. The center is another illustration of a couple representing the Yakan traditional wedding. And on the right portion is the Sama Dilaut house on stilts with the buggoh-buggoh (dugout boat) beneath, traditionally used as primary transportation. And on the rightmost part is the Lepa (houseboat).
