The gallery is divided into two sections, each highlighting the vital natural resources used in the Philippines and their significance to our daily lives. It aims to raise awareness about the origin of these resources, their extraction methods, and their contributions to our well-being.
One side of the gallery focuses on the mineral resources that are locally mined to manufacture essential products we rely on for practical purposes. These minerals are obtained from the earth using various methods such as placer mining, surface mining, and underground mining, depending on factors like mineral type, location, and value. The exhibited samples include metallic minerals like gold, chromite, nickel, iron, copper, and manganese. Additionally, nonmetallic minerals like quartz, sulfur, calcite, and anhydrite are showcased, emphasizing the diversity of resources found in the country.
The other side of the gallery highlights the energy resources utilized in the Philippines. Visitors can observe samples of natural coals representing different stages of development, from peat to anthracite. There are also displays of crude oil samples and drilling implements donated by the geologist who discovered the country's first oil wells. These early crude oils collected from the West Philippine Sea hold historical significance. In addition, eco-friendly methods of energy generation are showcased, including windmills that convert air into electricity, solar panels that harness sunlight, hydro-power derived from water, and geothermal energy extracted from the Earth's heat.
By showcasing these resources and their extraction processes, the gallery aims to educate visitors about the importance of responsible resource utilization and the diverse ways in which these resources contribute to our everyday lives. It highlights the significance of sustainable practices and renewable energy sources in meeting our energy needs while raising awareness about the rich abundance of minerals found within the Philippines.
